When speaking about “Recognizing Stress,” we discussed how taking the wrong approach to stress can be more detrimental than beneficial to your health. We often try to find ways to “deal” with stress instead of adequately addressing it.
Ignoring stress, denying it, waiting until your breaking point, etc., are all ways to “deal” with stress but choosing these methods causes us to reach a point of distress (overwhelming or chronic stress).
Knowing what NOT to do in your journey of stress transformation is just as important as knowing what TO do.
Remember that our goal is not just to know that we have stress but to address it healthily to transform its effects on our lives. To do this, we must make sure that we recognize when we are mismanaging our responses to stress. In September, we will discuss a few incorrect ways that people deal with stress.
As we discuss this mismanagement of stress, it is important to note that we will be addressing stress as Distress (negative, depleting stress).
We will come back to the discussion of eustress at a later time.
